Friends,
It is my distinct pleasure to be here in Boston for my first High Holiday season since assuming my role as Consul General of Israel to New England. Anna, I, and the twins have been here since last November and we have found the community incredibly warm and welcoming. I have had the honor of meeting many of you or visiting many of your synagogues for various programs and speaking engagements, however I know there are still many more of you I need to meet and visit. I look forward to working with you all this coming year.
This year, and indeed this month, is an auspicious time for Israel and Jews worldwide. There are many forces out there, seeking to delegitimize and bring down the State of Israel. It is comforting to know that the Jewish communities outside of Israel are not blind to this. In my many meetings here I have come to find this Jewish community and particularly the clergy here in New England are a very well educated and an active force of good for Israel. Through your Israel Education and Action committees, I have seen wonderful discussions, debates, dialogues, and lectures- all engaging your synagogues and congregations in meaningful conversations about Israel and Jewish Identity. I am proud to serve in a region which takes their commitment to Judaism and love of Israel so seriously.
I wish to pass on to you a pamphlet which the Ministry has put together for distribution among Rabbis and leaders in the Jewish community. This pamphlet has official greetings from Ministers and Executive Officials as well as talking points and other information which are designed to be easily adapted as part of your sermons and remarks for the upcoming Holidays season. It was designed by Rabbis, for Rabbis and community leaders. Please take a few minutes to look through it, perhaps print a few out and distribute as you see fit. More importantly, please use it as a resource for you and your congregations.
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and meaningful Rosh Hashana. May we all be inscribed in the book of life.
Sincerely,
Shai Bazak
Consul General of Israel to New England
